Luxury 5 Gold Star Bed & Breakfast near Inverness in the Highlands of Scotland

Just what does it take to get a five star gold rating? Margaret and Alex let you in on their secrets…

With another successful visit from the AA under their belts, Margaret and Alex Hutcheson can confidently say they know the formula for a memorable guest visit. And just what makes for a five star stay? Crisp linens, lavender soaps, and complimentary Tunnocks Teacakes certainly help, but they are just a few of the many small details that have a big impact on the overall guest experience.

An ‘enviable location’. This was the first feature noted by the AA inspector. Tucked away in the tranquil landscape of the Highlands yet 10 minutes’ drive from the centre of Inverness, it boasts the best of both worlds when it comes to a holiday destination. And its location is no coincidence; Margaret and Alex knew the land’s potential when they built the lodge in 2000, having previously lived down the road at Daviot Mains (today known as The Dairy). Set over 80 acres, a stay at Daviot Lodge allows guests the opportunity to hike nature trails, cycle through the countryside, or even spend a day in town indulging in shopping and fine food.

‘A comfortable and quality interior’. Staying true to its Scottish roots, Daviot Lodge has been furnished to reflect the comfort and tranquillity of the surrounding area. From the tartan carpets to the deep crimson of the drapery, each element of décor aligns with the rich and noble history the Scottish Highlands. But the true detail lies in the small touches; in each room guests are treated to luxurious extras, welcoming the prospect of a rainy night in by the fire. The AA inspector even notes, the ‘sherry and Ferrera Rocher chocolates [are] just two of the examples that further enhance guest satisfaction.’

And while linens, chocolates and bespoke extras may seem like the owners’ secret to success, underneath it all lies a true passion for what they do. As Daviot Lodge continues to develop its already sterling reputation to this day, Margaret and Alex remain true to their humble beginnings, tending to visitors’ needs and maintaining the grounds themselves just as they did nearly twenty years ago. Their secret: when the guests’ needs are put first, the details naturally fall into place. No doubt this philosophy will continue to earn Daviot Lodge the coveted five star rating for years to come.
